LightSpeed SCCA Novice Permit Evaluation

This program provides a structured evaluation of a driver’s readiness for the Novice Permit for SCCA sprint and endurance racing, conducted in accordance with the principles outlined in the Sports Car Club of America General Competition Rules (GCR).

The evaluation begins with a classroom session covering race procedures, flags, starts, passing protocols, and safety expectations, followed by an on-track driving evaluation. Drivers are assessed on car control, consistency, situational awareness, predictability, and judgment in traffic under live track conditions.

Drivers who demonstrate the required level of competence will receive a letter of endorsement submitted to the SFR SCCA License Administrator, allowing the driver to proceed with completion of the remaining SCCA Novice Permit requirements.

This program is intended for drivers transitioning from HPDE, Time Trial, or endurance racing programs without a license requirement into SCCA-sanctioned sprint and endurance competition.

Eligibility

Advanced-level HPDE drivers with three (3) LightSpeed Time Trial sessions or equivalent experience as determined by LightSpeed.

Licensing Disclaimer

Participation in the LightSpeed SCCA Novice Permit Evaluation does not guarantee issuance of an SCCA Novice Permit or Competition License. Final decisions are made solely by the SCCA Region License Administrator.

This program provides an evaluation and, when standards are met, a letter of endorsement in support of the driver’s application. Drivers are responsible for completing all SCCA membership, medical, documentation, and on-track participation requirements in accordance with the SCCA General Competition Rules (GCR).
