Book the car and the track day together

Most rental companies can't do this — they aren't the organiser, so booking the car and getting into the event are two separate jobs. We run the events, so we hold spots for rental customers and put both on one booking.

What's included

  • The car
  • Support crew included
  • Data acquisition and video system
  • Track-day insurance — optional on this car, charged per day
  • Full tank to start — return it full
  • Up to 2 hours track time
  • Track event entry — sold separately

Damage, deposit & cover

  • $3,500 refundable deposit, returned in full after post-event inspection.
  • Track-day insurance is optional on this car and charged per day you book. A support crew is included. Where taken it covers the car itself — not other vehicles, track property, or injury.
  • The deposit is the deductible on that cover. Damage the car and the deposit is what it costs you — the policy covers the repair above it. If the repair comes to less, you're only out what it cost.
  • Decline the cover and the deposit is $5,000 instead, and it is not a deductible — with no policy behind it you owe the cost of damage in full.
  • Cover is capped at the car's insured value. If the repair goes past that, the balance is yours — ask us for the figure before you book.
  • The cover doesn't reach everything. Another car, track property, injury, and mechanical damage from how the car was driven — an over-rev, a missed downshift, no cool-down lap — sit outside the policy. Those are yours in full, and the deposit doesn't cap them.
  • This car has data acquisition and video fitted, so what happened on track is a matter of record rather than opinion.

How the day runs

  1. Book — pick your date, tell us your experience, pay the rental and deposit.
  2. We prep — the car is corner-balanced, fluids and brakes checked, tyres set.
  3. Arrive — the car's in the paddock before your first session. We email your location the week of the event.
  4. Drive — up to two hours across the day, split by run group.

Questions people ask

If something here isn't clear, or your event isn't a standard track day, get in touch before you book.

Before you book

What's included in the rental?

The car fully prepped, up to two hours of track time, tyres and brakes in track condition, and checks between every session. Race-car rentals also include a support crew. You get a full tank and bring it back full. Your event entry is separate.

The exact list is on each car's page — it differs between the track-prepared cars and the race cars.

Can I rent for a test day, a race, or an event you don't run?

Yes. Pick the event type on the car page and we'll quote it. Test days, sprints and endurance rounds are priced per event, because the format, the length and the support you need all change the number. Same if you're running someone else's track day.

Do I need to book the track day separately?

Not if it's one of ours — and that's something most rental companies can't offer, because they aren't the organiser. Book your entry on our schedule and your rental here, and we'll line them up. Already registered for a LightSpeed event? Just pick that date.

What experience do I need?

Documented track experience or a current race licence. If you have neither, book a coach with your rental — that's the route in, and it's how most first-timers start with us. Novice bookings include coaching automatically.

How much track time do I actually get?

Up to two hours across the day, split into sessions by run group. Weather or a red flag can shorten that. It's outside our control and isn't refundable, which is standard across the industry.

How old do I have to be?

25 and over is straightforward. Under 25 we can usually still get you out, with a young-driver surcharge — ask us for the figure when you enquire. You'll need a valid driver's licence on the day either way.

Can two of us share one car?

Ask us — it isn't something you can add at checkout. A second driver needs their own track-day insurance on top of the rental, so it depends on the car and the event and we quote it case by case.

Where we can do it, both drivers need to meet the experience requirement and both get signed in, and you'd be splitting the same track time between you.

Money, damage and deposits

What's the deposit and when do I get it back?

On this car it's $3,500. It varies by car — the more the car is worth, the higher the deposit — and the figure is shown again on the booking form before you pay.

It has a second job: it's the deductible on the track-day insurance. If the car is damaged, this is what it costs you and the cover takes the repair from there.

It's charged with your booking and returned in full within 5 business days of post-event inspection.

What happens if I damage the car?

Track-day insurance covers the car, and your deposit is the deductible on it. Damage the car and the deposit is what it costs you — the policy covers the repair above that, up to the car's insured value. If the repair comes to less than the deposit you're only out what it cost and the balance comes back; if nothing happens the whole deposit is returned.

What the cover doesn't reach is yours in full, and the deposit doesn't cap it — another car on track, track property, injury, and mechanical damage caused by how the car was driven. That last one matters most on a track day: an over-rev or a missed downshift is outside the policy, so the engine or gearbox bill is yours. It's why we're strict about experience and about coaching for novices.

Do I need track-day insurance?

On this car it's optional — tick or untick it when you book. It's charged for each day you book. Decline it and your deposit is larger and stops being a deductible, so you'd owe the cost of damage in full.

It covers the car you're renting, up to that car's insured value — a bill beyond that is yours, and we'll tell you the figure if you ask before booking. It does not cover other vehicles, track property, or injury — and it does not cover mechanical damage caused by how the car was driven, such as an over-rev or a missed downshift. Anything outside the policy stays your own arrangement and isn't capped by the deposit.

Your deposit is the deductible on it. The deposit is still charged with your booking, and if the car is damaged that's what it costs you — the cover takes the repair from there. Ask us for the specifics of the policy when you book.

What about fuel?

The car is handed over with a full tank — bring it back full. If you'd rather we refuel it, we'll do that and bill it at cost on your invoice. Same as any rental car, no surprises.

Who pays for tyres and brakes?

We do, under normal use. The car arrives with both in track condition and we replace them on our schedule, not your bill. Damage from an off, or from abuse, is separate.

What if the car breaks down?

Two separate things here. Lost track time isn't compensated — if the car stops, the remaining sessions are gone, the same as a red flag or weather. It's a race track and things break.

Who pays to fix it depends on cause. Damage traceable to how the car was driven — a missed downshift, an over-rev, no cool-down lap — is yours, and the track-day cover does not extend to mechanical damage of that kind. The deposit doesn't cap it either: this is the one case where you're exposed to the full repair, which on a racing engine or gearbox is not a small number. This car has data acquisition and video fitted, so that's a question of record rather than opinion, and we'll show you the data either way.

What's your cancellation policy?

14 days or more before the event: full refund. 7 to 13 days: half the rental back, or move to another date at no charge. Inside 7 days: no refund, but you can transfer the booking to another date once.

Your deposit is returned in full either way. If we cancel, or the event is called off, you get everything back.

On the day

What safety gear do I need?

A Snell SA2020 or newer helmet, closed-toe shoes with a thin sole, and long sleeves and trousers. We keep loaner helmets if you don't own one yet — tell us your size when you book.

What should I bring?

Your driver's licence, your helmet if you have one, sun protection, and more water than you think you need. Everything else is on us.

Where do I meet you?

The car is in the paddock and ready before your first session. We'll email your paddock location and a contact number the week of the event.
